Clemson gets a five-star surprise commitment on Saturday

Clemson football picks up a 2020 commitment from five-star recruit Trenton Simpson. It was a bit of a surprise since he never had a public offer before his official trip this weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 224 pound linebacker from Mallard Creek High in Charlotte, NC was once committed to Auburn before he removed the commitment on Oct. 20. After opening up his recruitment, in-state UNC appeared to be his destination, especially, after consecutive visits on Nov. 2 (official) and Nov. 23 (unofficial) subsequent to an Oct. 26 unofficial to Clemson. 

Simpson is the third linebacker commit in the class, joining Kevin Swint, Carrollton (GA) and Sergio Allen, Peach County (GA).
