Raiders revive "Clemson West" selecting Tanner Muse 100th
The Las Vegas Raiders have added another Clemson Tiger to their squad as Tanner Muse, drafted 100th will join last season’s draft picks Clelin Ferrell (4th), Trayvon Mullen (40th), and Hunter Renfrow (149th).
General Manager Mike Mayock has been a huge fan of Dabo Swinney’s program and said that the Raiders will move Muse to linebacker to take advantage of his playmaking skills and instincts.
In a Zoom call with Muse earlier this year, Mayock noticed that Muse ran down a Texas A&M player from 30-yards behind. That type of effort led Las Vegas to believe that Muse would fit their organization well.
NFL.com describes Muse: "Had a history at Clemson of finding the football. Finished with 14 career passes broken up and seven interceptions. High school center fielder with excellent ball-tracking when the ball goes up. Savvy and tends to smell a rat during misdirection and trick plays. Quick to diagnose and trigger downhill against the run. Good straight-line speed as a linebacker prospect. Pursues with proper gear shifts to leverage runner to the sideline. Wide and well-balanced in his tackle approach. Drops pads and wraps through a runner's thighs. Should be a four-phase special teams player as a pro."
According to ClemsonTigers.com:
“Veteran safety who finished his Clemson career credited with 237 career tackles (10.5 for loss), 15 passes broken up, 4.0 sacks, seven interceptions for 102 yards (including a 64-yard return for a touchdown), a forced fumble and a 63-yard fumble return for a touchdown in 1,921 snaps over 59 career games (39 starts) … at the conclusion of his Clemson tenure, his 59 career games played ranked tied for the most in school history with Christian Wilkins, Cannon Smith and K’Von Wallace.”
Dabo Swinney on Muse: “Tanner Muse is a poor man’s version of Isaiah Simmons, and what I mean by that is he’s not 6’4’’, but he’s very similar to Isaiah in that he can do a lot of things. In a day and age where everybody’s looking for a hybrid guy, he is the ultimate hybrid guy. He was a great safety for us but has the confidence to play linebacker and has elite speed. He can run with anybody. I think he’s a guy that has a chance to be an All-Pro special teams player. I think he’s got that type of impact. He’s a core special teams guy. He’s incredibly smart — a fifth-year senior, graduate, great leader, captain, and is going to really make somebody a heck of a football player. He’s got great energy and brings great energy and enthusiasm every single day and is excited about his opportunity coming up. It’s the same thing as Isaiah: He’s got versatility, he can do a lot of things and he can really, really run.”
