On the matchup with Notre Dame:
“We’re super excited about the opportunity this week. This is college football at its best—two Top 5 teams. When you start breaking this down, it’s about what you’d think. A bunch of really good players on both sides-- very small margin for error type of game.”
On the Irish:
“Notre Dame-- they are ranked No. 4 for a reason. Offensively, it starts with their offensive line-- they are massive.”
“Really well-coached. Very well coordinated. They don’t just have good players; they are well-coached. Just a complete team. They are built to run the football. Again it all starts with the guys up front.”
On their defense:
“Defensively, these guys are as good as you are going to see. One of the best safeties you are going to see in No. 14. That’s what you would expect when you see a team that is ranked 4th in the country.”
On playing in Notre Dame Stadium:
“It’s going to be awesome. I’ve never been to Notre Dame. From a college football standpoint, it’s something I always wanted to do. Such a historic program and brand. Exited about going and competing against the best at their place, in a historic environment.”
On seeing the stadium and Touchdown Jesus:
“We will head up there sometime after lunch on Friday and kick it off Saturday night. I’m excited about it. Tim Bourett’s been talking about this game for two years. I know that’s a pretty cool thing for him to be a part of. When we go to certain places that we haven’t been, we will usually swing by the stadium to check it out. We will definitely do that. I look forward to that. As far as Touchdown Jesus, just excited to see it.”
On D.J. Uiagalelei’s decision making Saturday:
“That’s the key to quarterback play. I mean, there is a lot going on. This isn’t 1990 all over again. These are decisions that are happening post-snap all the time in 2020. There is a lot that’s going on. For a young guy like that, he did an amazing job.”
On Uiagalelei facing Notre Dame:
“This is going to be a different animal this week, going on the road. This is a really special team. This is a very, very good defense that has elite talent and plays with elite effort. We’ve got to match that and play clean with good crisp execution.”
