On when he found out he was getting the job:
"When everything went down he (Dabo Swinney) was in Las Vegas at the Raiders game and whenever Brent (Venables) accepted the job he called me up right away and let me know the plan and started rolling from there."

On his reaction to the news:

"We were really really excited and man, unbelievable opportunity, and we're fired up."

On if he knew this would be the arrangement once Venables left:

"I thought I had a great opportunity. Me and Brent have worked great over the years, seven years together. I have tremendous respect for him and just came in every day with the mindset that I'm going to learn as much ball as I can from him. There are so many great examples over the years where it was like we were thinking the same thing exact same time."

On what Clemson fans need to know about him:

"I'm a football junkie. I love the game. From my very first opportunity at Mississippi State, I've completely immersed myself into trying to learn the big picture, learn schemes, learning techniques, and fundamentals. Love being on the field with the players, that's why I got into this profession to be able to build great man of character through the game of football. That's the fun part being around the guys in the locker room every day to me."

On how he got connected to the game:
"Growing up always knew I wanted to coach college football or work in the NFL. Never knew how that would unfold. Had an opportunity growing up to go to Mississippi State, started as a baseball manager for Ron Polk, legendary baseball coach there, just had the opportunity to get my foot in the door with football as a student assistant and Sylvester Croom was the head coach there. Ellis Johnson was our defensive coordinator and just an opportunity to get my foot in the door and put my nose down, stayed quiet and just worked hard every day."

On the hardest part of replacing Brent Venables:

"Off the top of my head, nothing really like stands out. Every day, I'm just gonna come in and be myself from an intensity standpoint and just being a rah, rah guy-- that's probably not me, but I'm gonna get fired up at times. I am very passionate in my own way and that sort of deal. I have to come in and be myself and do things how I do them."
