The Demon Deacons last topped the Tigers in October of 2008, Tommy Bowden’s final game as Clemson’s head coach. Following that loss, Dabo Swinney was named interim head coach to finish out the season-- and the rest, as they say, is history.

Swinney moved into third on the all-time leaderboard for the most wins through the first 15 years of a head coaching career in FBS history, moving past College Football Hall of Famer Barry Switzer in December.

Impressively, Swinney has amassed his total despite not having the benefit of a full season in his first year. Swinney went 4-3 on an interim basis in his first season in 2008 after taking over for Bowden.

Opening comments:

"We're excited about our first division road game. We've got one conference win-- and that's always great. Now you get into division play. We've got five straight coming up. They're critical. You've got to win on the road."

"I'm sure it will be a great crowd-- blackout and all that. Our guys are excited about the challenge and the opportunity to stay in control of our destiny."

"They evaluate well. They teach, coach, and develop well. This is one of the most veteran teams out there. Rarely does Wake beat themselves."

"This is a huge game for us. This is a huge game for Wake. This is two good football teams that are both improving. Both teams want the exact same thing, so it comes down to being able to execute."

On Clemson’s injuries:

"I think we are in a much better spot. We are not going to put out a list until Saturday. We are in a good place. We are getting some guys back. Right now, we like where we are."

On Dacari Collins leaving the team:

"I don't think he liked where he is on the depth chart. Again, as I said the last time, that's 2022. Not much of a story anymore to me, to be honest with you. It's going to be an every-year deal in college football. Great kid and very talented."

On Wake's offense:

"Well, they score 42 points a game. They are explosive. They are built to score. Then you've got a guy like (Sam) Hartman-- he's like a coach out there."

On Chase Brice:

“I called him and said he and I need to go to Vegas-- like right now. Man, unbelievable. His comment was, ‘Winners win.’ He's a great young man. They all believe in him. He's one of those guys that finds a way. Love that guy. He's a good one.”
