The Storylines

Clemson will play their third straight night game when they take on Florida State in Tallahassee tonight. The Tigers are coming off a 31-3 win over Boston College last Saturday night. 

This week, Clemson will be in search of its 10th 7-0 start in program history and its seventh such start under Swinney. Clemson has won the first half of the "Middle 8" -- Tigers get the fumble recovery and score to add to their lead. They lead 24-14 with 19 seconds to play before the half.

The middle 8 is what the Clemson staff calls the last 4 minutes of the first half and the first 4 minutes of the second half.

Tigers will get the ball to start the second half. That was a huge score to end the half there. You would think if Clemson can come out and get a score here to start the half, they'll begin to create some distance.

Wow. What a fast start to the second half. A huge kickoff return from Will Shipley and then a double reverse from DJU to Davis Allen on a 31-yard TD reception.

Clemson extends the lead to 31-14 just seconds into the third quarter.

I am surprised that Clemson didn't give the ball to Shipley on that series. A couple of passes and the Tigers will punt. Tigers lead FSU 34-14 with 11:45 left to play in the game.

Ja'Khi Douglas scores on a 6-yard TD reception. He sat down right in the middle of the zone and it was an easy toss for Jordan Travis.

Noles cut into Clemson's lead at 34-21 with 9:22 to play in the game. This is an important drive for the Tigers coming here -- still lots of time left.

FINAL: Clemson 34, Florida State 28

Tigers win their 13th straight tonight on the road in Tallahassee. Things got a little interesting there at the end and you have to give Florida State credit for continuing to battle even when they were down 20. I thought DJU played well, finishing 15-of-23 for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Next up, it's another battle of undefeated teams as Clemson and Syracuse will tangle in Death Valley next Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is at 12 noon.
