Lady Tigers Fall to No. 5 Notre Dame on the Road Sunday

 NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Clemson women’s basketball team ran into a hot No. 5/2 Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon, falling 90-37 at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center. The Irish were coming off the biggest comeback win in school history on Thursday, and continued that momentum into the game against the Tigers, shooting 62% from the floor. With the loss, Clemson dropped to 11-9 (1-6 ACC), while Notre Dame improved to 18-2 (6-1 ACC).

Notre Dame opened the game on fire offensively, shooting 70.6% (12-for-17) from field goal range to take a 28-13 after one quarter. The Irish barely cooled off in the second period, making 64.3% of their shots for a 48-21 lead at halftime. Sophomore Kobi Thornton had a solid first half for the Tigers, with 10 points (on 5-for-9 field goals) and six rebounds.

The Irish were even hotter in the second half, shooting 73.3% in the third quarter, and connecting on nine consecutive field goals at one point in the period. Thornton finished the game with her second-straight double-double, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Danielle Edwards finished the game with six points, on two made three-pointers, and senior Alexis Carter tallied four assists and two steals in the contest.

Clemson hits the road again next week for a trip to Syracuse, N.Y. The Tigers face the Orange on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
