Yesterday marked the conclusion of Clemson's last fall scrimmage, which was a success according to head coach Dabo Swinney. As they gear up to face Duke on Labor Day night, the Tigers are making the most of every opportunity to evaluate their performance and prepare for the upcoming season.
Swinney: "We just finished our last full scrimmage, we'll still have a little competitive work and probably a few live periods probably Monday and Tuesday of next week, then it's pretty much all game prep from that point. So today, it was kind of our second preseason game, if you will. Big day for a lot of guys. We held some guys. Got some guys a few reps, some guys we held completely because we've got a lot of guys that we're trying to evaluate. Just like the NFL and preseason games they've got a lot of guys are trying to get reps for know who's gonna make the team, if you will, and then they cut people good news is we're not cutting anybody, we get to keep them. But we need to evaluate some of these guys."
He also mentioned that the twos seemed to be catching up a bit to the ones, but with players being held out to help give other guys reps, the accuracy of those gains might be skewed a bit.

Swinney: "I thought our twos closed the gap a little bit. We kind of went ones on twos all day today. The last scrimmage, I saw a pretty good gap-- and again, we held a few guys, but this scrimmage, I saw some guys kind of make some strides and show that they belong."
Swinney said that the Tigers worked on several scenario style plays during their nearly three hours on the practice fields.
Swinney: "Another really competitive day, a lot of situational work again, we had overtime period, we had some short yardage, we had some special teams, situational things that we worked today, we got a couple of good two-minute drives, which was good to see. Then really kind of just some about seven or eight type one-offs, really special situational like one-play type things that can come up in the course of a game. So a lot of opportunity to teach today."
The Tigers will take a few days off an Swinney said the players need some down time after 14 consecutive days of fall camp.
Swinney: “Tomorrow will be a good solid workout, a light workout. We'll take the pads off of them tomorrow. Then grade this tape, start making some decisions, and then really tomorrow, it's kind of breaking camp for us, if you will just true camp mode. We'll give everybody off on Friday and Saturday. Just got a mental recharge and physical rest."
We will have much more for you following Swinney’s time with the media.
