On his preparation during the offseason: “Just coming in here early in preparation that I put in with the guys on the team. Just knowing that my older guys have guided me through. Taking a lead behind them and the team. I felt good, no nervousness, just ready to play.”
On his mentality: “Me being about my business. Just ready to play on the field. It’s been about my business and knowing the plan. Just executing it in the right way. On the field, just being that dog and not taking the backseat from nobody. Just getting the job done.”
On building relationships with current players and coaches before the season: “Just for me, knowing I wasn’t playing just building a bond with the team. Seeing the guys that are going to be around for this team for the upcoming season. Getting a feel for my coaches. Just doing what they needed me to do on the scout team. Giving them a look, in that aspect, was just a good feeling seeing the guys I was going to be around.”
On the support from the coaching staff: “Just knowing that anybody that has been recruited wants to play. Just hearing that from a coach makes you want to stay on your P’s and Q’s on and off the field. Academically not just worry about the field. Knowing if you do the right thing on and off the field that you’ll play. That’s a good feeling and makes you want to handle your business.”
