The Storylines

Prior to Clemson's open date last week, Swinney tied Howard atop Clemson's all-time leaderboard with a 17-12 win against Wake Forest on Oct. 7. Both the opponent and the opponent's point total drew historical parallels. Wake Forest last defeated Clemson in 2008, a loss that led to Swinney's ascension to head coach the following week. Wake Forest also scored 12 points in that contest, though in 2008 those 12 points resulted in a 12-7 Wake Forest win rather than the 17-12 defeat Wake Forest suffered this season that evened Swinney with Howard in the wins column.

Miami — both the city and the program — have been involved in several memorable moments for Swinney. As a player, Swinney and the Alabama Crimson Tide won the 1992 national championship by virtue of a 34-13 Sugar Bowl win against No. 1 Miami in New Orleans. In 2009, Swinney earned his first win against a ranked opponent when unranked Clemson went on the road and upset eighth-ranked Miami in overtime, 40-37. The region was also the host of Clemson's first BCS bowl victory — a 40-35 Orange Bowl win against Ohio State to end 2013 — as well as Clemson's first College Football Playoff victory, a 37-17 win against Oklahoma in 2015.

Cade Klubnik fumbles as he tried to take off and run on the pass play. Miami recovers. That's now 10 lost fumbles for Clemson on the year, I believe. Turnovers are, unfortunately, still a problem after the bye week.

Miami leads 7-0 with 13:36 to play before the half.

Wow! What a catch from Jake Briningstool for a 32-yard reception for the touchdown. He beat the one-on-one coverage.

We are tied in Miami at 7 with 8:09 to play before the half.

That is the third turnover for Clemson in the first half. And the game is still tied at 7 with the Canes about to get the ball back. 2:42 left before the half.

That appears to be a safety for Miami. Cade Klubnik rolled out to his left trying to escape pressure in the endzone.

HALF | Clemson and Miami are tied at 7.

Clemson with three turnovers in the first half and a near safety. A sloppy first half of football as Miami gets the ball to start the second half.

Jonathan Weitz knocks through the 42-yard field goal as Clemson takes their first lead of the night at 10-7.

On another note, how about Tony Elliott and Virginia knocking off No. 10 UNC in Chapel Hill?! What a win for that program.

Clemson's defensive line got pushed around on that last drive. A long 15-play, 75 yard drive that took up 9 minutes ends in an 11-yard TD reception. It's a three-point game in Miami as the Tigers lead is cut to 17-14 with 8 minutes to play in the game.

Both teams scored on field goals and now Miami has just scored on a 3-yard TD run. The 2-point conversion is good. Miami leads 28-20. Clemson needs a touchdown and 2-point conversion to keep the game going here in double overtime.
