The Storylines

Saturday night’s contest between No. 1 Clemson and No. 7 Miami has a similar feeling of the 2016 Clemson - Louisville matchup between Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson. Fast forward four years later, and this is Clemson’s biggest home game since that night.

Tonight’s game features two of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Miami’s D’Eriq King with offenses that are loaded with talent for the Tigers including wide receiver Amari Rodgers and running back Travis Etienne and for the Canes, tight end Brevin Jordan and defensive end Quincy Roche.

Both defenses are loaded with talent such as Andrew Booth for the Tigers and as Quincy Roche for the Canes as we mentioned as well. Since 2016, Clemson and Miami rank No. 1 and No. 2 in both sacks and tackles for loss. One key factor to watch will be who can win the battle up front. Whoever can will have an edge in tonight’s game.

Not how I envisioned Miami's first TD on Clemson in a decade going.

That's a fumble from Trevor Lawrence. Helmet got right on the ball there on what is now a wet and rainy night in Death Valley.

Sheridan Jones ends the Miami threat with the interception. Great job to turn around and find the ball. Tough break for Miami

I'm unclear on this rule apparently...why not a safety?

He would've had to possess the ball I think and then fumble it.

So how do you guys judge this game so far?

But if Clemson recovers that ball in the endzone it's a touchdown. Possession changes at first touch.

Better after that run!

Travis Etienne tight roped the sideline.... I thought he stepped out there on that touchdown watching it live. Nonetheless, it's a 72-yard TD from the Jennings, La. native and it's 28-10 Clemson.

ETN goes tightroping down the sideline like he's a freshman against Louisville.

This game is about what I expected. I thought Miami's offense may be able to make a few more plays than they have with the tight ends but Brevin Jordan only has 2 catches for 31 yards.

I've been really impressed with the tight end play from Clemson tonight with Galloway with his two touchdowns. If Clemson can get things going with him, it's only going to make this offense even more explosive.

Trevor Lawrence is down. Took a shot on that play. Lawrence is jogging off the field on his own according to the TV broadcast.

That's Miami's first offensive touchdown against Clemson since 2010 with the D'Eriq King scramble for a touchdown. Clemson's lead is down to 18 at 35-17 with 8:31 left in the contest.

Quick postgame thoughts...
-- Loved the fight from Trevor Lawrence tonight. He got knocked down a few times and hopped right back up and scored a touchdown there in the third quarter. It was a workman like performance for the Cartersville, Ga. native as he finished 29/41 for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns.
-- I thought the wrinkle using D.J. U with the QB run game was interesting in the first half
-- The performance from the tight ends was really impressive to me. Braden Galloway looked sharp catching the ball, exploiting the middle of the field and finished the night with 2 touchdowns
-- Clemson's defense answered the bell against another explosive offense, this time against D'Eriq King forcing 3 turnovers and held them to 210 yards and did not allow King to get the run game going. It was good to see Tyler Davis back out in the lineup for the Tigers tonight. The defensive line dominated things up front with 5 sacks.

Clemson is on the road at Georgia Tech next week for a noon kickoff at Grant Field. See y'all next Saturday!
