The Storylines

Under Head Coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson has annually pursued five stated goals: 1) Win the opener, 2) win the division, 3) win the state championship, 4) win the ACC Championship and 5) win the closer. Clemson has already accomplished goals one and two and will attempt to add goals three and four over the next two weeks.

"Our regular season is over, if you will," Swinney said immediately following Clemson's win against Miami (Fla.) last week. "South Carolina is a goal of its own for us, a season of its own. It's that time." A year ago, Clemson shut out South Carolina, 30-0, to extend the Tigers' current winning streak in the series to seven games, matching Clemson's seven-game streak from 1934-40 for the longest streak by either team in series history.

A win on Saturday would make Clemson the first team on either side of the rivalry to win eight consecutive games in the series

The pass sails on Rattler and they can't convert on 3rd and 11. Tigers take over leading 7-0. I like what I'm seeing from the defensive line getting pressure in the early going.

DJU keeps it for a 9-yard TD run, making some people miss in the space. Tigers go 90 yards in 8 plays, just over 4 minutes. Tigers up 14-0 with 5:52 to play in the first.

One of the keys to this game that we talked about here on the site was the need for Clemson to run the ball as the Gamecocks are one of the worst teams in the country defending it. So far, they've got 105 yards.

Josh Vann has been a bright spot for the South Carolina offense early. He just recorded a 34-yard reception on a post route but is shaken up on the play and we've got a timeout on the field.

They are headed to the booth to take a look and see if that was an incomplete forward pass that was intended for Phil Mafah. Looks like it to me. Would be a big play for South Carolina defensively if the call is overturned.

14-7 Tigers with 13:59 to play before the half.

Spencer Rattler scores on the scramble. Great job by eluding the pressure. Tigers lead 16-13 with 8:24 to play before the half. Turnovers continue to hurt Clemson.

It sure is nice to have Beaux Collins back in this offense. He hasn't played since the Notre Dame game. He adds a nice dimension to the team and made a nice catch downfield.

DJU finds Antonio Williams in the back right corner -- a bust in the secondary leads to a touchdown. Tigers increase the lead to 23-14 with 6:14 to play before the half.

That was a great response after giving up the TD. Hopefully we will see this offense continue the aggression. A passing game could really set Shipley up to wear down the defense in the second half.

Beaux Collins with the 59-yard completion to set up the score. Would be nice if the Tigers can establish a deep threat with him as we head into the postseason.
