The Storylines

Under Head Coach Dabo Swinney, Clemson has annually pursued five stated goals: 1) Win the opener, 2) win the division, 3) win the state championship, 4) win the ACC Championship and 5) win the closer. Clemson has already accomplished goals one and two and will attempt to add goals three and four over the next two weeks.

"Our regular season is over, if you will," Swinney said immediately following Clemson's win against Miami (Fla.) last week. "South Carolina is a goal of its own for us, a season of its own. It's that time." A year ago, Clemson shut out South Carolina, 30-0, to extend the Tigers' current winning streak in the series to seven games, matching Clemson's seven-game streak from 1934-40 for the longest streak by either team in series history.

A win on Saturday would make Clemson the first team on either side of the rivalry to win eight consecutive games in the series

What a call by Shane Beamer and Marcus Satterfield. Gamecocks go for it on 4th and 1 and go with the play action pass and connect with Juju Mcdowell for a 65-yard completion down to the 1-yard line. Gamecocks have it 1st and goal at the 1.

Spencer Rattler is picked off by RJ Mickens. Rattler never saw him and that's a huge interception for the Tigers. Clemson leads 23-14 with 3:18 to play before the half.

HALFTIME: Clemson 23, South Carolina 14

That was a wild first half of football. We had a safety, pick six, a wild sequence on a kickoff return and two interceptions. Clemson will certainly want to come out and play cleaner in the 2nd half.

Jaheim Bell scores on the 2-yard TD run on the inside zone play. South Carolina cuts into Clemson's lead at 23-21. It is exactly what Shane Beamer wanted to see coming out of the locker room. 12:03 to play in the third.

Brad Johnson brings the pressure, forcing the incompletion and the Tigers are forced to punt.

The second half lull continues for the second straight week. Momentum is wearing garnet and black right now. Tigers clinging to a 2-point lead at 23-21 with 9:43 to play in the third.

Four runs and two passes on that drive, finishing with a Will Shipley 11-yard tough run for a TD. Tigers now up to 230 rushing yards on the day despite the up and downs for the offense today. That was a huge drive.

4:35 to play in the third quarter. Clemson back up by 9, leading 30-21

The Gamecocks are threatening to take the lead when play resumes in the final quarter in Death Valley. Clemson's 40-game home win streak and 7-game win streak against South Carolina is on the line in the final 15 minutes.

South Carolina definitely won that quarter with the late surge. Tigers defense will need to come up big here on the goal line, which they haven't done a large majority of the year.

Timeout in Death Valley. South Carolina is facing 3rd and 19 when play resumes. Gamecocks can take the lead for the first time as they currently trail 30-28. Just getting going in the final quarter.

35-yard FG is good and South Carolina leads for the first time today at 31-28 with 10:54 to play in the contest.

This is Clemson's first deficit against South Carolina since 2018, when they trailed 7-0.

Gamecocks brought pressure up front again and the Tigers are forced to punt. An unproductive drive for Clemson there. Tigers with 71 yards in the 2nd half compared to 128 for South Carolina.

We have 9:59 to play in the contest as South Carolina leads Clemson by 1 at 31-30.

This is the biggest defense series of the game. Our offense is not equipped to play from behind. A TD by the gamecocks would really deflate this team.

Tigers have work to do if they're going to take the lead here. Will start from their own 2. You almost have to get points here because I'm not sure how many more chances you'll get with 7:06 to play in this one.
