The Storylines

Clemson will open a season on Labor Day evening for the second straight year when the ninth-ranked Tigers face the Duke Blue Devils on Monday, Sept. 4.

Clemson enters the game as the reigning ACC champions after winning its league-leading 21st all-time ACC title last season. The Tigers are 15-4-1 all-time in conference openers of seasons following ACC titles, which includes wins in conference openers following each of Clemson's six ACC titles from 2015-20.

Clemson opened its 2022 ACC title-winning campaign on Labor Day night a year ago, defeating Georgia Tech, 41-10, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Tigers' final offensive play was a three-yard touchdown pass by Cade Klubnik, his first career touchdown pass in his first career game.

On Monday, Klubnik is expected to make his first career regular-season start, as last December, he became the first Clemson quarterback since the modernization of Clemson's quarterback position in 1953 to make his first career start in a postseason game.

The ball sailed on Cade Klubnik on a ball intended for Jake Bringinstool on 3rd down. Tigers will be forced to punt with 12:45 to play in the opening quarter. Just getting going in Durham.

And Clemson goes three and out. Pass was deflected on the first play and then a wide receiver screen on 3rd down. Clemson's offense off to a slow start.

I'll take Cade. A slow start but this offense should break open eventually. Too many weapons that haven't touched the ball much yet for Clemson.

Tigers with 67 yards of offense right now at the end of 1. I feel like it's only a matter of time. I thought the offense would take a little bit to get going. I'm not really surprised.

Funny thing is that people said all offseason that this game would be tougher than expected. Than when it is, everyone is going crazy.

Just keep playing hard Tigers! The defense has had some poor moments, but they are flying around the field.

Excellent coverage there on the shallow route by Andrew Mukuba. He made the tackle immediately once he made the catch.

Blue Devils will punt with 7:13 to play before the half. Tigers will start the next series backed up inside their own territory, leading 7-6 when play resumes.

Jaquez Moore fumbles. Jeremiah Trotter forces the fumble and Mukuba recovers. Another turnover for the Blue Devils. If Mukuba doesn't get tripped up, that's a house call.
